Profile

Between the news and the world

Renan de Souza is a Brazilian journalist and internationalist, an anchor at Times Brasil | CNBC — the exclusive licensee of the world's leading business news brand. Fronting programmes such as Fast Money, he connects the movements of international markets to the decisions that shape everyday life in Brazil.

Before CNBC, he was an international affairs analyst at CNN Brasil — where he made his mark with more than eight uninterrupted hours of live coverage as the war in Ukraine began — and, for over a decade, head of SBT's International desk, steering coverage of the elections, conflicts and summits that redrew the global chessboard.

He holds an MA in International Relations from Goldsmiths, University of London, as a Chevening Scholar of the British Government, is the author of the best-seller Private Military Companies and the Outsourcing of War, published in three languages, and has twice been recognised by the UN-backed MIPAD initiative among the 100 most influential people of African descent in the world — in 2020 and again in 2024.
